Solar thermal is a method of harnessing energy from the sun and using the energy to create hot water that can be used to heat domestic hot water, assist with under floor and central heating, heat swimming pools and hot tubs. Solar thermal systems can be combined with wood fired boilers via an accumulator tank to provide hot water in the warmer months when the wood fired boiler is not in use.
Solar thermal is classed as renewable energy - after the initial outlay without doubt , solar thermal is by far the most cost effective way of heating water. Apart from the minimal cost of running an efficient circulating pump the energy produced is FREE!!!
There are 2 main types of solar panels - solar evacuated tubes and solar flat panels. They are both equally effective but have different advantages depending on the circumstances.
The process of transferring heat from the solar panels is simple. The solar panels receive the suns rays that heats the transfer fluid inside the panels. The solar controller automatically checks the temperature in the accumulator tank against the temperature of the fluid in the panels. Once the temperature in the panels is sufficiently higher than the temperature in the tank , the solar controller activates the pump and the fluid is circulated through the heat exchanger , heating the tank.
